Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and anchor and. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree from the department of English literature. In 1967 Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). Two years later she became a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. In 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named the chief reporter for Congress. In 1992, she was named chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist, as well as anchor of the TV program Meet the Press. She served on an advisory panel during the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. She covered a wide range of interesting stories such as arm control, budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal. She also went on numerous trips along with the president Reagan to summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
